Octomore Edition 17.3 is a five-year-old, super-heavily peated Islay single malt from Bruichladdich, bottled at 60.9% ABV (121.8 proof) in a 700ml bottle and peated to 132.1 PPM. The barley is 100% Islay-grown Concerto from the 2019 harvest, all of it from Irene's Field at Octomore Farm, and the spirit was distilled in 2020.
It matured in first-fill bourbon barrels and second-fill European oak casks that previously held Ribera del Duero, Sauternes, Eiswein and Syrah.
The nose has coastal peat smoke, sea spray, tar and lemon peel, with brown sugar, green apple and marzipan. The palate is full and weighty, with salted caramel, smoked apple and charred peat, and the finish is long, dry and smoky.
