Port Charlotte Islay Barley 2014 is a heavily peated single malt distilled by Bruichladdich on Islay. It is made entirely from barley grown on the island, with the malt peated to roughly 40 ppm.
The spirit was matured in about 84% first-fill bourbon barrels, 8% second-fill virgin oak and 8% second-fill Bordeaux wine casks. It is bottled at 50% ABV, non-chill-filtered and with no added colouring.
The nose combines digestive biscuit, vanilla, honey and crème brûlée with peat embers and later apricot and melon. The palate has clean smoke, vanilla custard, toffee and ripe pear, and the long finish carries salted caramel, oak char and citrus zest.
