Buffalo Trace – Experimental Collection Oversized Barrel (50cl)

A Buffalo Trace bourbon from the Experimental Collection, in a 50cl bottle. It comes from a trial of barrel size, in which every other variable was held constant. A typical bourbon barrel holds 200 litres. For this experiment, bourbon was aged in two larger barrels, of 250 and 500 litres, on the same warehouse floor for the same length of time. The 250 litre barrel gave a flavour profile similar to the standard control barrels, while the 500 litre barrel produced a bourbon that was more tannic, oaky and dry.
