Bulleit Bourbon is a Kentucky straight bourbon bottled at 45% in a 1.75 litre bottle. Its mashbill is 68% corn, 28% rye and 4% malted barley, a higher share of rye than is usual for bourbon. It spends at least six years in new charred American oak barrels. The brand was revived in 1987 by Tom Bulleit, from a family recipe attributed to Augustus Bulleit.
The nose combines vanilla, caramel, honey, cinnamon bark and citrus zest over light oak. The palate starts gently with maple and toffee before rye brings black pepper, nutmeg and baking spice. The finish is long, dry and satiny, with oak tannins, light toffee and a peppery warmth.
