This is the Bunnahabhain festival bottling for Fèis Ìle 2022, marking the return of the in-person event. It is an Islay single malt without an age statement, bottled at 50.8% in a 75cl bottle, and was the first Fèis Ìle release selected by Master Distiller Brendan McCarron.
The spirit is unpeated and was matured in ex-bourbon casks, then married with whisky from small ex-Pedro Ximénez sherry octaves made of seasoned European oak. It is natural colour and non-chill-filtered. Abhainn Araig is Gaelic for Araig River, a river in the north-east of Islay.
The nose is chocolate, ginger and cigar box. The palate is velvety, with milk chocolate, raisins and honeyed macadamias, and the finish is dark toffee with cinnamon.
