A Barbaresco made from Nebbiolo grapes from the Vallegrande vineyard near Treiso. The Grasso family's parcel has vines planted in 1971, 1985 and 2000, and the grapes are generally harvested late, from late September to mid-October, because the west-facing site has large temperature differences. Fermentation takes place in tank, followed by 24 months in large Slavonian oak casks and a further six months after bottling.
The wine is deep dark red. The nose has mature, soft tones of chocolate and coffee. The palate is more delicate, with cocoa, blackcurrant, anise and wild cherry, combining darker and fresher tones, and ending soft and harmonious, almost velvety. It suits most meat dishes with veal, beef and game, and not too mature white or blue cheeses.
