Cadenhead's Enigma 27 Year Old Blended Malt Scotch Whisky (51.8%)

Enigma is a 27 year old blended malt Scotch from the independent bottler Cadenhead's, founded in 1842. The series draws on whiskies from obscure distilleries or unusual cask combinations, often without naming the origin. This one was distilled in 1997 and matured for 27 years before bottling at 51.8% ABV. A small amount of malt from another distillery has been added to the main component, a practice known as teaspooning, which keeps the original distillery anonymous. It is non-chill-filtered and of natural colour. The nose is pear, green apple, custard biscuit and vanilla with a touch of nutmeg. Honey-glazed malt, shortbread, macadamia and candied citrus peel lead on the palate, and the finish is clean, with soft oak and a faint chalky note.
