This is a 45 year old Lowland single grain whisky from the Caledonian distillery, which closed in 1988. It was laid down in April 1976 and bottled in September 2021 for Douglas Laing's Xtra Old Particular range, at 48.2% ABV in a 70cl bottle.
It is a single cask release from a refill hogshead, limited to 159 bottles.
The nose offers fresh fruit salad with damp, spiced oak. The palate is thick and creamy, with caramel cream and honeyed cereal. The long finish brings a citrus tang, zesty hard candy and syrup.
