An 11 year old Islay single malt from Caol Ila, released as the Autumn Edition 2024 of the Decadent Drinks Equinox & Solstice series. It comes from a single second fill European oak Oloroso sherry hogshead of spirit distilled in 2013, bottled at 48.5% ABV.
The nose is salty, umami sherry over sharp peat smoke, with gherkins, seawater, soy sauce and tar. The palate is thick and mouth-coating, with smoked olive oil, black olives and more tar, and deep peat smoke carries into the aftertaste. The finish is long, with a touch of sweetness, tar and savoury umami.
