Caol Ila 12 Year Old is an Islay single malt aged 12 years in oak and bottled at 43% ABV. It comes from the distillery beside Port Askaig, the largest on the island, and pours a pale straw colour.
Its character is peat smoke with a maritime edge, together with citrus and an oily smoothness. It is the distillery's flagship bottling.
The nose is fresh and lively, with green olive, sea air and a clean line of peat smoke. The palate is mouth-filling and oily, with sweet malt and citrus over maritime smoke and a building peppery warmth. The finish is long, drying and smoky, with lingering lemon and bonfire embers.
