This is a 13-year-old Caol Ila from Islay, bottled by Gordon & MacPhail for its Discovery range. It was matured in ex-bourbon casks and is bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle.
The Discovery range looks at the core flavours of Scotch single malt, and this bottle stands for the smoky side, with sweet fruit and dark peat smoke.
On the nose there is sweet vanilla, apple and apricot alongside dry-cured meat and peat smoke. The palate brings white fruit, sponge cake, lemon, oatcakes and smoked cheese, and the finish is long, sweet and smoky.
