This is a 2015 vintage single malt from Caol Ila, bottled at 57.1%, which is 100 UK proof. It matured for 8 years in ex-bourbon hogsheads and then for a further 18 months in fresh oloroso casks.
The nose is vinous and balsamic, with camphor, medicinal smoked herbs, tart red cherries, old leather and earthy notes. The palate is full and rich, with liquorice root, brief sherry sweetness turning to dry, nutty oloroso, orange marmalade, citrus and cherry, all under heavy animal smoke. The finish is sooty and dry, with ash, spice, balsamic oil, mint and eucalyptus.
