A 40 year old Islay single malt from Caol Ila, from 1981, bottled by Gordon & MacPhail as part of its Private Collection series 1. It was matured in a single refill American oak hogshead, which yielded 129 bottles, and it comes in a 70cl bottle.
The nose is described as sweet vanilla tart, apple and freshly baked pie crust, giving way to a medicinal note. The palate has dried exotic fruits and orange marmalade, then white pepper, eucalyptus and smouldering peat smoke. The finish is long, with a slight hint of smoke.
