Caol Ila – Distiller's Edition (70cl, 43%)

This is Caol Ila Distiller's Edition, an Islay single malt in a 70cl bottle at 43% ABV. Part of its maturation took place in Moscatel casks, which add a complex sweetness alongside the citrus and peat of the distillery's spirit. Caol Ila produces malt mainly for blends such as Johnnie Walker Black Label, though its own bottlings are held in high regard on Islay. The nose is peaty, fresh and clean, with rich fruit and a spicy, fragrant edge. On the palate, peat smoke and crisp, intense flavours outweigh the sweetness and malt, and cinnamon appears as the dram dries. The finish is long, rounded and robust.
