Caperdonich Peated 1997 Vintage Edition - Secret Speyside (70cl)

This is a peated Caperdonich from 1997, bottled by Secret Speyside at cask strength without chill-filtration. It was matured in American oak barrels and comes in a 70cl bottle. Caperdonich stood on the banks of the River Spey. It opened in 1898 and was taken down brick by brick in 2011, so bottlings like this one are what remains of its whisky. The nose is rich, with orange, cranberry jam, honeycomb and bonfire smoke. On the palate come poached pears, ginger jam and roasted chestnuts, woven through with sweet peat smoke. The finish is sweet and smoky.
