Cardhu – 12 Year Old Pure Malt

A 12-year-old Cardhu from the Speyside distillery, labelled Pure Malt. Cardhu was the first distillery to use that term for a blended malt, and the wording was later banned for blended Scotch whisky. Cardhu supplies much of its production to Johnnie Walker. In 2002 its distillery bottling became a vatted "pure malt" to ease pressure on stock, and it returned to single malt in 2004 after widespread criticism. The episode led to the single malt rules being rewritten and to the term "blended malt" being adopted. This bottle dates from that "pure malt" phase.
