Carlos I Imperial XO is a Spanish brandy from Bodegas Fundador Pedro Domecq in Jerez, a distillery founded in 1725. It was created to mark the 400th anniversary of the death of Carlos I of Spain, and comes in a 70cl bottle with a carved design.
It is a blend of several brandies, some of them aged for more than 20 years.
The nose is dark and deep, with oak and sandalwood, cinnamon, black pepper, clove, quinine and dried fig, plus hints of toasted hazelnut and cocoa. The palate is silky and soft with great structure, and the finish is very long, with dried fig.
