Castarède Bas Armagnac 1979

This is a vintage Bas Armagnac from Castarède, one of the oldest houses in Gascony. It was distilled in 1979 and matured in oak casks for decades. The long ageing shows in its character, with dried fruit, vanilla, spice and polished oak. It suits slow sipping as a digestif. On the nose there is dried apricot, prune, vanilla and soft spice. The palate is rich with dried fruits, oak, caramel and a gentle nutty sweetness, leading to a long, warming finish with lingering spice and fruit.
