Château d'Yquem is a Premier Cru Supérieur Classé property in Sauternes, Bordeaux, and this is its 1971 vintage. The year gave very little fruit, only 228 barrels of wine, and the wine has gone on to develop well in bottle.
The nose is complex and lively, with ripe stone fruit set against mature botrytised notes of citrus peel and dried honey. On the palate it is immensely concentrated, yet focused and balanced.
