This is an eight year old single malt from Chichibu in Japan, distilled in 2017 from Odyssey barley and matured in a first fill bourbon barrel, cask 7966. It was bottled in 2026 at cask strength, 63.3% ABV, in a 70cl bottle, as a single cask release of 192 bottles.
The nose offers citrus, lemon and grapefruit, fresh walnut, wildflower honey, cardamom, star anise and white flowers, with vanilla and a minty freshness after some air. The palate is powerful and lively, led by vanilla with a vegetal, slightly marine edge. The finish is long and silky, moving through barley, pine, fresh herbs, dried flowers and oak.
