Chicken Cock 20 Year Old Cotton Club Rye Whiskey is a Canadian-distilled rye aged twenty years in used bourbon barrels and bottled at 50% ABV. The mash bill is 90% rye and 10% malted barley.
It is a tribute to the Cotton Club of Harlem, where Chicken Cock was the house whiskey during Duke Ellington's residency. Released in December 2021, it comes in a replica apothecary-style bottle inside a collectible tin modelled on the cans used to smuggle whiskey across the border. The edition runs to 1,595 six-bottle cases, about 9,570 bottles.
The nose is toasted oak, dark caramel, aged leather and baking spice. The palate brings vanilla, clove, cinnamon and dark chocolate, and the finish is very long, with warming spice, sweet oak, tobacco and molasses.
