Chicken Cock Rye is a Kentucky straight rye whiskey bottled at 45% ABV (90 proof) in a 750ml bottle. It is made from a mash bill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley and aged in new charred American oak. It is the first Chicken Cock rye in over 70 years.
The brand dates from 1856 in Paris, Kentucky, and was revived in 2012 by Matti Anttila with master distiller Gregg Snyder and Grain & Barrel Spirits. The whiskey is now distilled, aged and bottled in Kentucky.
The nose is aromatic rye spice with citrus zest, clove and pepper. The palate is bold and spicy, with cinnamon, nutmeg and honeyed sweetness, and the finish is crisp, peppery and lingering.
