Royal Salute 21 Year Old Rio de Janeiro Polo Edition is a blended malt Scotch whisky bottled in 2025 at 40% ABV, in a 70cl green ceramic decanter. It is the Rio expression in Royal Salute's limited Polo Collection.
Every whisky in it is at least 21 years old, and a portion was finished in first-fill Braeval casks, which adds a fragrant, floral note meant to evoke Rio's greenery. Royal Salute itself was created in 1953 to mark the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.
Tasting notes describe poached pears, charred pineapple, vanilla cream and candied walnuts on the nose. The palate offers honeydew melon, green apple, coconut, toffee and salted caramel with cinnamon and cardamom, leading to a sweet, spicy finish.
