Choya Shiso Umeshu (75cl, 15%)

Choya Shiso Umeshu is a Japanese ume fruit liqueur from Choya of Osaka, in a 75cl bottle at 15% abv. It is made from ume fruit, sugar and cane spirit, then flavoured with shiso (perilla) extract. The shiso gives the liqueur its ruby-red colour and a fresher, more aromatic character than the classic golden umeshu. Choya began as a grape grower in 1914 and has made umeshu since 1959. It suggests serving this one on the rocks, neat, with soda or in cocktails. On the nose there is a refreshing shiso aroma over sweet ume fruit. The palate is a balanced sweet and tart ume with shiso herb, finishing smooth and fruity.
