Clos Mesorah 2015 Montsant (15%)

A red wine from Montsant, made from the estate's own grapes. It is a blend of about 55% Cariñana (Samsó), 25% Garnacha (Garnatxa) and 20% Syrah, with vines from 18 to 105 years old. The grapes are harvested and fermented separately in stainless steel tanks, followed by malolactic fermentation and 17-18 months in lightly toasted 225-litre French oak barrels from Allier with batonnage. It is blended only after ageing and briefly held in tank, then bottled unclarified and unfiltered. Deep ruby in colour, it has a concentrated nose of dark berries and mild spice. The palate is full and fruit-driven, with dark chocolate, liquorice and a touch of vanilla from the oak, finishing delicately with freshness and white pepper. It has enough fruit, complexity and tannin for several years of ageing.
