The Jazz Crescendo is Clynelish's contribution to the 2023 Diageo Special Releases, titled "Spirited Xchange". It is a ten-year-old Highland single malt, bottled at its natural cask strength of 57.5% in a 75cl bottle.
The whisky was matured only in first-fill ex-bourbon American oak casks, with no wine finishes. Master blender Stuart Morrison chose to let the distillery's waxy character show, and the wildcat on the label and the jazz name reflect the sweet, soulful richness he found in the casks.
The nose is white grapes, unripe banana, lemon, vanilla sweets and a hint of sea breeze. The palate is honeyed and fruity, almost tropical, with peppery spice, walnuts and a pinch of salt. The finish is long and spicy, with wax, pink grapefruit and vanilla.
