Cointreau is a French orange liqueur, known as triple sec because it is distilled three times. It was first created in 1910 with the Sidecar, Margarita and Cosmopolitan in mind.
It is made from the peel of sweet and bitter oranges. The sweet peel brings fruitiness and near-floral notes of rose and lavender, while the bitter peel adds a zesty, lime-like edge.
The nose is clean, fresh and lightly perfumed, with orange peel. On the palate it is aromatic and well balanced, with a peppery, cardamom-like spice, and it is not overly sweet. It can be sipped neat, chilled over ice or used in cocktails.
