Colonel E.H. Taylor Distiller's Council is a Kentucky straight bourbon from Buffalo Trace, made as a tribute to Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor Jr., a founding figure of the bourbon industry. It comes in a 750ml decanter-style bottle with gold-embossed lettering.
The bourbon is bottled in bond at 100 proof, which is 50% ABV. That follows the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897, which Taylor championed: distilled in a single season and aged for at least four years in a bonded warehouse. This is the Distiller's Council edition, a limited release.
The nose is caramelised sugar, toasted oak, dark cherry and a hint of leather. The palate brings vanilla bean, molasses, baking spices and dried fruit with a touch of tobacco. The finish is long and warm, with oak spice and a touch of honey sweetness.
