Colonel E.H. Taylor Warehouse C Tornado Surviving is a bourbon from barrels that were exposed to the weather when a tornado-strength storm hit Central Kentucky on 2 April 2006.
The storm damaged the roof and north brick wall of Warehouse C, which Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor, Jr. built in 1885 at Buffalo Trace Distillery. The barrels stayed exposed through that summer while repairs were made. Tasted years later, they had developed a bourbon rich in flavour.
Dried fig and cloves lead the nose, with baking spice and oaky dryness. The palate has jam-like fruit, vanilla and a touch of smoke, and the finish builds in dark spices with hints of tobacco.
