Compass Box Flaming Heart is a blended malt Scotch whisky bottled at 48.9% in a 75cl bottle. It pairs Islay peat smoke with the spice of new French oak, a combination it was first released with in 2006.
The component malts come from distilleries including Laphroaig, Caol Ila and Talisker. Maturation uses ex-bourbon barrels, re-charred hogsheads and custom-made French oak barrels.
Wood smoke leads the nose, with red fruits, cinnamon, marzipan and oatcakes. The palate begins with raspberry and dark currants before peat builds, with hazelnut cream, crystallised ginger and old cigar box. The finish is long, with raspberry jam, damson, smoky peat and toasted oak.
