Secrets of Smoke is a blended malt Scotch whisky from Compass Box, led by whiskymaker James Saxon. It was released in 2024 in 9,792 bottles at 52% ABV, with natural colour and no chill-filtration.
The blend sets out to bring forward the sweetness in peated malts. It combines Peat Monster blended malt finished in Spanish red wine casks, Caol Ila from Palo Cortado sherry-seasoned butts, Ardmore from sherry hogsheads, Laphroaig from Marsala barriques and Bowmore from refill bourbon barrels.
Toasted marshmallow, honey, buttery pears, caramel and coastal smoke lead the nose. The palate is oily and spicy with pear, peach and melon, and the finish is long, chocolatey and peaty, turning citrusy.
