Compass Box Secrets of Smoke Blended Scotch Whisky (70cl)

Secrets of Smoke is a blended Scotch whisky from Compass Box, built around peated malts. It draws on malt whisky from the Caol Ila and Laphroaig distilleries and on The Peat Monster, Compass Box's own assemblage of Islay malts. Each part is matured in a different cask: Palo Cortado sherry-seasoned butts for the Caol Ila, refill red wine barrels for The Peat Monster, and Marsala barriques for the Laphroaig. The aim is to let the sweetness inside peated whisky come through the smoke. After a coastal smokiness the nose is honeyed, with toasted marshmallow and buttery pears. The palate is oily and spicy with pear, peach and melon, turning citrussy before a long, chocolatey, peaty finish.
