Compass Box The Peat Monster is a blended malt Scotch whisky from Compass Box, the independent whiskymaker founded by John Glaser. It is built mainly around peated Islay malts, notably Caol Ila and Laphroaig, with a small Highland malt component, and is matured in refill hogsheads and custom French oak casks.
Bottled at 46%, it is non-chill-filtered and of natural colour.
The nose has thick peat smoke, smoked bacon, sea salt and coastal bonfire, with vanilla and a lift of tropical fruit. The palate is oily and generous, with earthy smoke, vanilla cream, papaya, mango and spicy oak, leading to a long, warming, smoky finish with charred oak.
