Convalmore – 1982/2022 40 Year Old Gordon & MacPhail Private Collection (70cl, 55.5%)

This is a 40 year old single cask Speyside single malt from Convalmore, a distillery that no longer produces. It was matured in hogshead 155 and bottled in a 70cl bottle at a cask strength of 55.5%. The whisky was distilled in January 1982. Gordon & MacPhail chose it in March 2022 for their Private Collection and Recollection series. It has no added colouring and was not chill-filtered. The release yielded 104 bottles. The nose offers vanilla, green apple and orange peel with quince and toasted walnuts. On the palate, ripe pears and apples meet exotic fruit in a fine, precise texture. The finish is long, with guava and a delicate honey sweetness.
