Crown Royal Black is a Canadian blended whisky made at the Crown Royal distillery in Gimli, Manitoba, bottled at 45% ABV in a 1.75 litre bottle. It is finished in heavily charred oak casks.
The blend draws on about 50 whiskies distilled in both column and pot stills from rye, corn and barley. The more intensely charred barrels give it a deeper colour and a bottling strength higher than the standard Crown Royal Deluxe.
The tasting notes describe molasses, vanilla and black cherry on the nose, a palate of butterscotch, caramel, cinnamon, black pepper and dried figs, and a long, smoky finish of charred oak and cinnamon.
