The Daftmill 2009 Summer Batch Release is a highly collectible artifact of true farm-to-bottle distilling. Operated by the Cuthbert family in the heart of Fife, Daftmill is an ultra-low-yield, seasonal distillery that only produces spirit during two brief windows of the year when they aren't busy tending to their barley farm. Distilled in August of 2009, this specific allocation showcases the immense patience behind their operations, letting the delicate Lowland spirit rest for a decade before its 2020 bottling.
What makes the 2009 Summer Batch incredibly distinct is its precise cask composition. The distillery masterfully vatted together three first-fill ex-bourbon barrels (Casks 47, 48, and 50) along with a single, highly active first-fill Oloroso Sherry butt (Cask 52). This marriage retains Daftmill's celebrated signature profile—bursting with fresh vanilla sponge cake, lemon curd, and floral grassy notes—while injecting a subtle, complex underpinning of warm holiday spice, dried sultanas, and toasted almonds from the sherry cask.
