Dansk Mjod Jule Mjod (75cl, 14.8%)

Jule Mjod is the Christmas mead from Dansk Mjod of Billund, Denmark. It is a spiced Nordic honey wine in a 75cl white stoneware bottle with a wooden stopper, at 14.8% ABV. The label lists honey, water, apple juice, ginger and cinnamon, and says the recipe dates from about the year 1700. The meadery serves it either chilled as a dessert wine or gently warmed, like a Danish glogg, but never brought to a boil. Honey comes first, with baked apple behind it and a cinnamon warmth that carries through the finish.
