Deanston Virgin Oak is an unpeated Highland single malt, bottled at 46.3% in a 750ml bottle. It is non-chill-filtered and has no added colour.
The whisky is first matured in American ex-bourbon barrels, then finished for 9 to 12 months in new, heavily charred American virgin oak casks. The wood is used as a finish rather than for full maturation, because virgin oak would overpower the spirit. The distillery has run a virgin oak programme since 2010.
The nose is lemon zest, barley sugar, apple and nutmeg. The palate brings candied fruits, vanilla toffee and heather honey, and the finish is lightly spiced, with honeyed malt and sweet oak.
