This is a Delva Old Pale Cognac at 40% vol in a 100cl bottle. The cognac was distilled in the 1930s or earlier, put into barrel before 1943 and bottled in 1976.
Its history is unusual. Barrels of spirits, cognac among them, were taken by British forces at Tobruk in 1941, then passed to Rommel's forces in 1942 and shipped to Nettuno. After the Allied landing at Anzio in 1944, General Mark Clark had the liquor bottled at the small Delva distillery there.
It later went to wine caves in Linz, Austria, came under Austrian government ownership in 1947, and in 1976 the remaining bottles were bought by the U.S. Army in Europe.
