Desmonta Nero d'Arcole 2016

This is a 2016 red from the Bixio family, made mainly from Merlot with 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% other grapes. The idea was to make a wine in the manner of Amarone from other grapes. The hand-selected grapes are dried for 40 days before fermentation, which runs for 15 days under temperature control. The wine then spends nine months in oak and three months in steel before bottling at the estate. It is dark red, with cherry, chocolate and lightly spiced coffee on the nose. The palate is balanced, with intense fruit and ripe tannins, and a long, concentrated finish.
