Dewar's 12 Year Old, known as The Ancestor, is a blended Scotch whisky in a 75cl bottle at 40% abv. It draws on more than 40 malt and grain whiskies, each matured for at least 12 years, with Aberfeldy as the heart malt.
After blending by master blender Stephanie Macleod, the whisky goes back into oak casks for a further six months, the Dewar's double ageing. This is the original red bottle presentation, from before the 2022 reformulation.
The nose offers honey, caramel, dried fruit, apple, apricot and vanilla with faint malt smoke. The palate is vanilla, butterscotch, toasted barley and almond, with cinnamon and ginger spice. The finish is medium, with caramel, oak and gentle smoke.
