Dewar's French Cask Smooth is an 8-year-old double-aged blended Scotch whisky finished in casks that previously held Calvados, the apple brandy of Normandy. It is bottled at 40% ABV.
It is the fifth release in the Dewar's Cask Series, which follows earlier Caribbean, Ilegal mezcal, Portuguese and Japanese finishes. The blend is married in oak for a second period before the finish.
Tasting notes describe fresh apple, baked pear and vanilla on the nose. The palate offers crisp orchard fruit, warm cinnamon and citrus, and the finish is light, smooth and slightly sweet, with lingering apple.
