Doc Swinson's Alter Ego Rye Whiskey

Doc Swinson's Alter Ego is an American rye whiskey made in small batches and matured using the Solera method, borrowed from Spanish sherry bodegas. Casks are arranged in a pyramid. A portion from each bottom-tier barrel is blended and bottled as a batch, and the barrels are then topped up from those above, tier by tier. Only new spirit enters the top tier, so the whiskey keeps ageing as it cycles down. The aim was to complement the rye rather than overpower it, as some finished ryes do. The notes describe light oak, caramel, fig, poached pears with cinnamon and a hint of anise, followed by a long finish of grassy cane sugar.
