Doc Swinson's La Mente is a straight bourbon from the brand's Exploratory Cask Series, bottled at 56.9% ABV in a 75cl bottle. The name is Spanish for "the mind". It is the Oloroso-finished component of Alter Ego Triple Cask Bourbon, bottled on its own at full blender's strength, and was the first barrel-finished expression the brand developed.
The base is the brand's "36/21" blender's cut, a blend of two high-rye bourbon mash bills aged nearly six years in new American white oak, char #4, before an extended finish in Oloroso sherry butts.
The nose brings dark fruits, vanilla, warm spices and maple syrup. The palate offers orange peel, dried apricot, roasted nuts, honey and caramel. The finish is long and warming, with dried fruit and peppery spice.
