Orion Sigma is a Cabernet Franc from Domaine Pierre Ménard, made from biodynamic and organic farming and bottled as a Vin de France at 12% vol. The grapes come from two small plots at Faye d'Anjou, blended in equal parts. One is a 15-year-old plot on clay with quartz over schist, which gives the wine its power and backbone. The other is a very old vineyard, at least 70 years old, called Les Mailles Hubert, in the Clos des Mailles, where clay over schist brings a floral, fresh and fine side. The grapes were picked by hand and macerated as whole bunches for 10 days, with no extraction movements. The wine was pressed and put into barriques of mixed ages. The name comes from Sigma Orionis, a multiple star that appears single to the eye.
