Quart des Noëls is an organic and biodynamic white Anjou made from Chenin Blanc by Domaine Pierre Ménard. It comes from the plot where the domaine began in 2013, a small parcel of very old vines planted in the early 1920s at Faye d'Anjou. The vines grow on a south-facing slope of sandstone schist with quartz, looking towards the Layon. Each bush-trained vine is genetically unique, from old massal selections. The name refers to the Angevin term 'Quarts' for the best parts of a hillside. The grapes are picked by hand and gently pressed in a pneumatic press. Fermentation and ageing take place in old barriques and demi-muids.
