Donnafugata Sul Vulcano Etna Rosso (75cl)

Donnafugata Sul Vulcano is a red wine from the Etna denomination in Sicily, made from Nerello Mascalese with a small proportion of Nerello Cappuccio. The vines are bush-trained and grow at about 750 metres on sandy volcanic soil, where cool conditions and large day-to-night temperature swings ripen the grapes. It is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel, then matured for 14 months in steel tanks and second- or third-use French oak barriques, followed by seven months in bottle. The nose is floral, with medicinal herbs, small wild berries, light spice and a mineral note. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, dense tannins and a savoury, refreshing close.
