This Ledaig was distilled in 1998 and bottled by Douglas Laing in its Black Series XOP range. It is a peated single malt at 64% abv in a 70cl bottle.
The nose is tense and concentrated, with white mint, straw, ash and soot, then lemon zest, camphor, ginger root and diesel. With air it turns towards lime tart, with lily, iris, green tea and mirabelle plum.
The palate is lively and very mineral, with chalk, slate, pear and acacia honey, moving to tiger balm, menthol, aniseed and liquorice before an intense smoky close of tar. The finish is long, with wildflowers over peat, then bacon, leather, samphire and seaweed.
