Eagle Rare 10 Year is a Kentucky straight bourbon from Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, bottled at 45% ABV in a 75cl bottle.
It matures for a minimum of ten years in new charred American oak barrels. The recipe is Buffalo Trace's Mashbill #1, a low-rye mix of corn, malted barley and roughly 10% rye or less. It won the inaugural Bourbon Trophy at the International Wine & Spirits Competition in 2013.
The nose is toffee and honeycomb with orange peel, dried herbs, worn leather and toasted oak. The palate is honeyed, with brown sugar and nougat, then dry oak, candied almonds and cocoa. The finish is medium, with toffee, honey and a trace of leather and vanilla.
