Edradour – Ballechin 10 Year Old (75cl, 46%)

Ballechin 10 Year Old is a heavily peated Highland single malt from Edradour in Pitlochry, made from barley peated to not less than 50 ppm. It is bottled at 46% in a 750ml bottle, without chill-filtration. Edradour has made the Ballechin style at its farm distillery since 2003, naming it after a Perthshire farm distillery that closed in 1927. The ten years of maturation took place mainly in ex-bourbon casks, with a generous addition of ex-Oloroso sherry casks. The tasting notes describe a herbal, grassy nose with sweetened smoke, then chocolate and oak on the palate over spicy, earthy smokiness. The finish is of smouldering burnt heather.
